A downloadable game for Windows

From the same brains who brought you Toumthump...

Flickers is a Godot-written game intended for teens and older players. While it sits firmly in the FPS genre, it aims to stand apart through its visual style and underlying systems. Drawing inspiration from voxel-styled games, the entire world is built from cubes at a compact 32×32-per-meter scale. This simple geometry is paired with realistic lighting, with plans to further invest in full PBR materials as development continues.

The game places you in the role of a lone survivor following a massive, world-ending outbreak caused by the Flicker—a reality-glitching artifact capable of turning anything into, well, anything. Its appearance has left the world in ruins, destabilized the rules of reality, and introduced a strange, chaotic energy to everything that remains. From this chaos emerged parasite-like enemies that operate as a hive mind, merging and cooperating to seek out and destroy all living tissue. As the survivor, you must navigate a shattered, modernized-1940s-inspired landscape, scavenging for items and holding off relentless waves of enemies while slowly piecing together what caused the outbreak in the first place.

Currently, the game features one developer-built map offering roughly 15–20 minutes of structured gameplay. That said, the experience can technically continue indefinitely, ending only when the player dies—or decides they’ve had enough. Inspired by classic zombie shooters and games like Pixel Gun 3D, Flickers leans into familiar wave-shooter mechanics while actively working to evolve into something more distinct and original.

In terms of performance, results vary by system, but the game averages under 2 ms process times with minimal RAM and GPU usage, though it does make fair use of the CPU. It is designed to run comfortably on “average” hardware and likely even below that threshold. Testing on systems as modest as an RTX 3060-based setup (CPU unspecified) has consistently maintained a stable 60 FPS. At present, there is no macOS version due to licensing limitations, but the game is fully playable on Windows, with Linux support planned for the future.

While the current build is considered complete, Flickers shows strong potential for growth. Several work-in-progress systems—most notably the parasite merging mechanic—are expected to significantly change how the game plays upon release. These features are actively in development, with the goal of delivering them within the next month or so.

Finally, the game already supports persistent features such as saved progress. This allows player settings and other options to be stored in user://, laying the groundwork for more long-term progression and customization moving forward.
